Hey everyone! As History students we’re blessed to be absolutely inundated with History content on every conceivable platform. There is so much good stuff out there it’s pretty much impossible to know about all of them, so this week, I thought it would be cool to make a post sharing a bunch of fun history media (Videos, Podcasts, Blogs etc.) with the Queen’s community. Myself and other members of the History DSC have already added some of our own favorite stuff, but this list is far from comprehensive, and we’d love to see what you guys have to share as well. Feel free to share your own favorite History-related media with us (by commenting on this post, emailing us at watson.studentsubmissions@outlook.com or messaging me directly on Instagram (@alexwod19)) and I’ll plan to get a similar post, with all your submissions added to it, up next month to share with the rest of the community. I hope you find something new and interesting on this list, and can’t wait to see what you have to share with the rest of us!
I’ve added brief descriptions of some of my own personal favorites from the list below
YouTube
History Matters (Probably my favorite History channel. Mostly short 3-4 minute animated videos about specific historical questions, although their older videos are around 10 minutes long and cover broader topics. Has a really excellent series on British/English History)
Extra Credits (Extra History)
Historia Civilis
Invicta
History of the World I Guess by bill wurtz (Simply Iconic.)
Useful Charts (Looks at the family trees of various important figures and periods of History, while explaining their historical context. All the charts used are for sale at their store
Brain4Breakfast (Fantastic countryball style videos about history. No longer active after the creator sadly passed away)
Oversimplified
The Great war (This series hosted by Indy Neidell follows the events of the WW1 week by week, as they happened 100 years ago)
Forgotten Weapons (Ian McCollum AKA Gun Jesus, explores the history of obscure, and not so obscure weapons, mostly guns)
History Buffs
Timeline
Weird History
The Armchair Historian

Podcasts
Dan Carlin’s Hardcore History (Carlin can be super intense, and his series, which can run for multiple 4+ Hour long episodes, are a huge commitment, but he is an incredible storyteller that makes awesome stuff. Most of his shows are behind a paywall, including my personal favorite about WW1, but his series on the Achaemenid perisan empire, and Imperial Japan during WW2 are available on spotify)
