2022-2023 Co-President Introduction

Welcome back to Queen’s, history students!

Our names are Dillon and Isobel and we’re excited to be the co-presidents of the History Department Student Council. We’ll each tell you a little bit about ourselves and what we’re going to be doing this year.

I’m Isobel, and I’m going into my 4th year majoring in History. I’m interested in preserving and strengthening the strong sense of community within the department, and promoting the unique and collegial energy that I have had the opportunity to enjoy over the past few years. There is something truly special about the History department at Queen’s, and a goal for this year is creating an environment that really fosters a sense of community. We will be hosting events, representing student interests and acting as an official liaison between students and the greater faculty, as well as acting as a source of information for History students.

Hello, I’m Dillon and I’m a 3rd year majoring in History. This year my main focus is on promoting dialogue between students and professors. Ideally, we’d be able to take away or else alleviate some of the stress present in university life that comes from students having difficulties reaching out to their professors. To that end, our goal is to help students build the confidence needed to approach their professors. It is important for students to self-advocate, as this allows them to take on a much more active role in their learning which in turn provides much greater educational benefits. Your professors have dedicated their careers to what they teach, and in my experience, they’ve always been happy to talk to students about their areas of expertise.

We’re looking forward to seeing all of you and to working with the department and student body to make the year great!
