1. What is your favourite part about being a professor?
The interactions with the students and discussing the philosophy of history. I just love those “light bulb” moments.
2. If there was one piece of advice you could give your students, what would it be?
Breathe and focus on being in the present moment.
3. Who is a person in history that you would like to be friends with and why?
Ursula de Jesus, an Afro-Peruvian mystic in 17th c. Lima. She overcame some of the difficulties of being enslaved and was able to gain her freedom. Although she continued to face racism in the convent where she lived, she was also a very powerful mystic who had a lot of stories to tell about the living and the deceased. We would have a lot to talk about.
4. What’s your favourite and least favourite historical fiction movie/TV show?
“Harriet” (Harriet Tubman) and “Dersu Uzala” favourites; least favorite, “Braveheart”.
5. Astrology was a big part of history, so what is your star sign?
